2016/May/26 - Back Home

Even though it was Thursday, Grump drove home today, as he is taking tomorrow off as a vacation day.

Before he left Columbus he took some selfies standing in front of a mirror.  (When in Columbus, he stays at a co-workers apartment.)

A Fat Man before the mirror

Where is the real Grump?

Back home, Dodong played with Sweetie's cellphone in the shade of the garage, while she watered all the plants she purchased for next-to-nothing at Lowe's.

Don't drop that cellphone Dodong!

Sweetie watering her plants

What's happening at Lowe's in that they are heavily marking down unsold bedding plants, and not watering them.  So the plants shrivel up and wilt and in general look like hell, but once Sweetie repots them and gives them a good, long drink they quickly revive.

Some of Sweetie's "rescued" plants

You'd think that Lowe's would take better care of ALL their plants, but I suppose that doing so for the summer annuals just isn't cost effective.

Peace!

2016/May/25 - ??

Okay, something or other happened Wednesday.  Old Grump was very tired from getting to bed late due to the baseball game, so he just hobbled through work.  Sweetie was tired back at home, the boys did what the boys usually do, and indestructible Lola was fine, as always.

So the day was pretty much a blank, (or at least it is now, two days later!), so I'm gonna do what I always do in these situations, namely give y'all a bunch of WonderPolls!

1. Are you the Heart Breaker or the Heart Broken?

I've always been the "Heart Broken", so I sure hope my wonderful Sweetie doesn't get any ideas!  63% of respondents share my fate, with the remaining 37% of y'all facing the dire prospect of karma eventually wrecking havoc on your life.

2. If you see someone about to get shot would you, a) jump in front of the bullet, b) run away and let them die, or c) call the police?

This assumes that the "someone" is not a loved one, (member of your family, close friend, spouse, child).  For a stranger I'd chose "c", but for my wife or kids I'd like to think I'd chose "a".

Only 14% of y'all would take a bullet, and 44% would call the cops.  This means, disturbingly, that a whopping 42% of y'all would simply run away.  Shame, shame, shame!!

3.  What would you do if soldiers from another country parachuted down in your neighborhood, a) let them take me captive, b) go inside, get a gun, and start fighting, or c) hide under a rock.

Unfortunately we don't own a gun at the moment, (young boys in the house), so I'm pretty much limited to option "c".  Interesting only 3% of respondents would surrender, while 54% claim they would fight it out, and 43% would be hiding under a rock with me.

4.  Do you snore or talk in your sleep?  a) snore, b) talk, or c) I don't know.

Amazingly 66% of folks claimed not to know, which indicates to me that most of y'all must be sleeping alone!  I snore, but only 13% of respondents would also admit this.  The remaining 21% of y'all are talkers.

By the way ....... EVERYONE snores and talks in their sleep!

5.  Of this list, which animal would you be?  a) wolf, b) lion, c) whale, d) monkey, or e) snake.

That's an easy one, if what I was told is true, namely, that whales spend the majority of their time eating and having sex!  But would you believe that whale was the second least popular choice at 11%, exceeded only in unpopularity by the lowly snake, which snagged only 4% of respondents?

Wolf was the most popular choice at 38%, followed by monkey with 24%, and lion with 23%.

6. Which would you rather wrestle, a) crocodile, b) bear, c) shark, or d) Chuck Norris?

Obviously I'd rather wrestle Chuck Norris, since he is a rational human whom I could reason with, and would hopefully have empathy for me and not hurt me.  50% of folks agreed with me, with 23% of respondents showing they're reckless and choosing to wrestle an alligator, 14% showing they're a little less crazy and choosing to wrestle a bear, and 13% being totally insane and choosing to wrestle a shark.

Peace y'all!

2016/May/24 - Baseball

Okay, so lots of other stuff happened today, some of which was pretty exciting.  And NOT everything happened on the road from Columbus to Atlanta, (Sweetie, Lola, Kuya, and Dodong are still back home in Macon, after all!), but for the three guys the evening baseball game was the highlight of the day.

What happened is that one of Old Grump's co-workers, James, won some tickets to an Atlanta Braves game.  So he, Grump, and another co-worker Sanford all packed into James's car and left work to drive off to see the game.

James drove

Sanford in the back seat, in the process of making an obscene gesture

They left right after work, and should have arrived in Atlanta with plenty of time to grab a quick bite to eat before the game started at 7:00 pm.  Unfortunately they got stuck behind traffic piled up on I-85 due to a horrific wreck, and spent over two hours staring out the car windows at scenes like this:

Stuck in traffic due to the wreck

Finally they arrived at Turner Field, just in time to catch the last half of the fourth inning!

They had really good seats, just a few rows back from the dugout on the first base line.

They stayed for a few innings, then Old Grump, ever the party-pooper, began to whine about how late it was, and needing to get up early for work tomorrow.

Sanford responds to Old Grump's whines

They left for Columbus just before the end of the sixth inning.

Driving back home was an experience too, as the first exit from I-85 to I-185 was blocked for "cleaning".  (It looked like a bunch of cleaning trucks stirring up dust to them, but let's assume it was cleaning.)  They had to drive down to the next exit and loop back up north to catch I-185, but they did eventually make it home, and even before midnight!

Peace!

2016/May/23 - Icky Monday

It was a wake-up-too-early-and-drive-too-long-into-work type day.  But Grump's gotta go to work, because, thanks to the wonderful (un)Affordable Care Act, we can't afford to buy health insurance.   Poor Grump!

This is what it looks like too early in the morning when Grump gets in his car and starts the long drive:

Moonlight Drive?

Kuya had a very good piano lesson after school.  Hooray Kuya!  Sweetie bought a bunch of plants at Lowes that were heavily on sale.  Hooray Sweetie!  Lola repotted plants.  Hooray Lola!  And finally, Thomas ate rice.  Hooray Thomas!!

Peace y'all.

2016/May/22 - Relaxing

We were all up late last night, much later than we should have been, so Sweetie and Grump were hoping the kids would sleep in a bit.

Ha!

Both Dodong and Kuya were up with the first light of dawn.  I guess it's easy to go to bed late and get up early when you have a long mid-day nap!

Today was a church day for us.  We hadn't been in quite a while, and we really needed to give thanks for Dodong's and Kuya's complete recovery to their respective "allergy events".

Although they're suffering a bit from neglect, the church does have some nice ornamental plants:

Kuya and Dodong played in the church playground.

Sweetie watching the kids play on the swings

Back home, the boys spent the rest of the day "relaxing" - lying in bed, or on the sofa, watching videos on the text pad or Sweetie's iPhone.

Dinner was yummy!

Yum!

Lola and Kuya were busy all evening:

Peace!

2016/May/21 - Shopping

It's Saturday, so we did what we usually do on a Saturday, namely ....... GO SHOPPING!  There's nothing more fun than spending money, (on credit), that we don't have.  Yeah, it sucks when the bills arrive, but that's the American way, right?

The day started off kinda weird.  On their way to the bank, (THAT itself is weird - depositing money instead of frittering it away!!), Grump and Sweetie had to turn around because a big tree had fallen across a main road.

The blocked road was Bass Road, which if you are familiar with the north part of Bibb County in central Georgia, you realize is a main, heavily traveled road.

They turned around and got to the bank another way, and soon also turned their attitudes around and went into "spending mode".  After a quick stop back at the house to get Lola and the boys, we all drove down to Warner Robins to go to a few Asian grocery stores there.

The first store we went to had some recently arrived homemade goodies.  We bought some and took them home for lunch.

Homemade Goodies at the Filipino Food Store

For most of the trip there and back, Dodong and Kuya slept.  This is how they are able to stay up late, yet get up early, keeping Sweetie and Grump in a perpetual state of tiredness.

Sleeping Boys

On the way home we stopped at Sams Club and once again spent more than we should on lots of fresh fruit.  Eating healthy is expensive!

After lunch, Grump took a nap, while Kuya took some, uh, "interesting" photos:

Whilst watching, Lola better realize that she is being watched!

Watch out Lola!

Around dinnertime we headed over to the Riverside Mall to walk around, (and spend more money!), then had a good dinner at the Buca di Beppo restaurant there, (spending more money in the process, of course).

Now it is late, and time for Sweetie and Grump to (hopefully) get some sleep, if they can also get Dodong and Kuya in bed.  Wish them luck!

Peace!

2016/May/20 - Visit to the Allergist

Today was an exciting day for Dodong; he made a trip to the allergy doctor!  As part of his visit blood had to be taken from his arm, since he is too young, and his allergy is too severe, to subject him to a skin test.

They took A LOT of his blood, but Dodong was quite the trooper, and went through the entire ordeal without crying, (much).

They took a lot of blood out of me!

Some interesting facts about allergies, from the allergy doctor's office:

Kuya had ordered some books from school, and they arrived today.  One of the books included a pair of matching sunglasses.

Of course everyone else  had to try on those sunglasses!

Meanwhile, back in Columbus, Grump took a pic of a co-worker's really cool car.  It's a Dodge Challenger, I believe, and it is a "sport edition", or something like that, which means it has a larger engine than is sensible for anyone to own other than a bachelor, (which his co-worker is).

Since it was Friday, Grump made the long, long drive home after work.  Once back home he, Sweetie, and Dodong went shopping for a few items for dinner, during which Dodong demonstrated that he is as serious and dedicated to driving as the Old Grump.

Don't bother me while I'm trying to drive!

Peace!
